TOP Anime OP ED Countdown #25

Macross Frontier ED 1

“Diamond Crevasse” by May’n

used as the ending for episodes 1-6, 8-9, and 13-14.

Macross Frontier is one of those mecha anime that place a heavy, perhaps irrational, focus on music as part of its central plot. As a results, the OSTs used in this anime is of the highest quality. “Diamond Crevasse” in my favorite song out of all of them.

On the other hand, the animation for ED is worse than not interesting. It is nothing more than credits with still background.

In fact, it is entirely my fault that a OP or ED chosen from Macross Frontier is ranked as low as it is. There are several other candidates, “Triangler” by Maaya Sakamoto (OP 1) and “Lion” by May’n and Megumi Nakajima (OP 3), for example, with very high-quality animation. However, since DC is my favorite song, I can’t help but put it on this countdown.

I have to admit that May’n’s songs in Macross F are probably my favorites of all her work. Lyrically and musically this ED is really enchanting. I’m quite heavily into the Macross franchise so I’m interested in your thoughts on Macross F. Did you enjoy it (or any of the other Macross installments)?

I’ve actually only seen Macross Frontier in the entire Macross franchise.

As for Macross F, I have to say it is a very cliched anime, but that does not stop it from being super enjoyable. It has the “typical” school drama, love triangle, friendship power, squid alien invasion, and the standard MC saves the world with mecha. However, it did all of these things right. The plot, while somewhat shallow, does not have too many plot holes or unbelievable plot. The ending is quite good for a mecha anime that is usually focused on the mecha action and not the plot.
      Give it 9/10 on myanimelist.

Did you particularly like any of the other OPs or EDs?

Yeah, I liked Triangler, Aimo, Neko Nikki and Seikan Hiko. I loved the vocal collection Nyan Tama, too. I followed singing careers of the two voice actresses May’n and Maria Nakajima for a while after, but they never seemed to make any songs that quite compared to their Macross F work. Do you like any of their post Macross songs? I’m eager to go through more of your OPs and EDs!
