I figured it was about time for me to post some recommended manga. These are manga that either finished in 2013 or ongoing ones that were still relatively new in 2013. All 6 manga that are recommended are not adaptations of any other mediums. These manga are originally published as manga.
#6 Masamune-kun no Revenge
Makabe Masamune has changed himself greatly for a single reason: he wants revenge. Contrary to his past, he has worked hard to become good-looking in order to carry out this goal. Faster than anticipated, he even meets the target of his revenge the first day after transferring in — Adagaki Aki. He wastes no time beginning his plan, but revenge doesn’t come easily. (MAL)
The premise seems generic, but enough to capture your attention nonetheless. If you read the first few chapters, you would immediately set it apart from many other manga that have similar setups. The first thing that would capture you is art. Seriously, the art is cute, attractive, but not annoyingly flashy. Then, the characters, which are well-done in such a short period of time. The character that stands out the most is obviously our cute little ojousama, Adagaki Aki, perfectly drawn and depicted.
In fact, as of January 9, 2014, there are only 11 chapters published for this manga. It probably won’t be a very long manga, but since it updates monthly, it might still continue for a long time to come.
#5 Minamoto-kun no Monogatari
Minamoto-kun has a face pretty enough to make people think he’s a girl. Because of his face, he was bullied by the girls in middle school who were jealous of his face. He developed a fear of women due to the trauma and he ended up attending a high school for boys. Just as he enters college and makes a promise to himself to overcome the trauma of his past, his father remarries and asks him to move out of the house. His father arranges him to live with his aunt (Minamoto-kun’s father’s younger sister) for the time being. She is an extremely beautiful woman who is also a non-tenured professor at his college. When he arrives at her apartment, she shows him her breasts and tells him that he will be her “guinea pig” in her reverse Hikari Genji project. (Source: jCafe24)
Yes. Seriously. A story of how a new university freshman get laid, presumably with 14 different girls. Apart from art (the main selling point of this manga), I really like how the narrative focuses on the reactions, thoughts, and emotions of the protagonist. Surely most people who read manga can relate to many experiences that MC-kun had. I hate to admit it, but this manga is actually realistic to a very large extent, not like a lot of shitty manga in which girls mysteriously fall for male lead.
At this time, there are 109 chapters published for this manga. However, it is not as long as you think, since each chapter only has 8 – 10 pages, with few words. Well, good luck with your conquest, MC-kun!
#4 Eden no Ori (Cage of Eden)
Akira and his classmates are on a plane that crashes on an island inhabited by a species thought to have been extinct. Some of his classmates are eaten alive, some kill others in desperation. Now Akira and a few other survivors are trying to stay alive through what seems to be a horrible nightmare. (Source: MU)
Eden no Ori is a survival, psychological, mystery, adventure, action, fantasy, sci-fi, but above all, shounen manga. The premise is original, and well-executed for the most parts. The story takes wild turns at different points of the story, but the mangaka was able to tie the threads down pretty well in the end. Just don’t take this one as seriously as it wants to be taken at the beginning of the story, and you will be able to enjoy this one a lot.
For readers who are not overly fond of fan-service, you would have to endure the over-abundance of service in this manga. This manga is completed as of January 2013, and overall, it is a rather nice survival-adventure-sci-fi manga.
Look forward to part two, which will be posted later today.
